Washington's Veteran Wrestler Hedj Nelson from Kettle Falls (Colville) recently had the opportunity to represent Team USA in Walbrzych, Poland as the United States took 36 Veteran Athletes to compete at the 2016 UWW Veteran Freestyle Championships Oct. 7-9.

Internationally, Veteran athletes are 35 years of age or older and compete in 7 different age divisions.

Hedj Nelson (WA) was choosen to represent Team USA for the second year in a row at the E Div. 69KG.  In 2015 Hedj took home a silver medal and this year in 2016 he was looking for redemption but fell, just shy of Gold by losing to Russia’s Bikbulatou by a score of 3-1.  Hedj was the only competitor to score on Bikbulatou (Rus).

Hedj has been competing for many years and trains with the Colville Indians as their assistant wrestling coach since 2006.  Hedj Nelson wrestled for Central Washington University during his college years and when not competing owns and operates an Orchard in Kettle Falls.

Congratulations silver medalist Hedj Nelson on representing Team USA and Washington State in Poland this past month.
